Case Study: South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority

In order to cut down on server sprawl, eliminate the constant hardware refreshes required to keep their desktop PCs current and for ease of use in administering their servers and PCs the South Shore Indiana Convention and Visitors Authority (CVA) wanted to go virtual. As an IT maintenance customer of Morgan Birge’s we had intimate knowledge of South Shore CVA’s IT infrastructure and were a natural fit to help them design, implement and support a virtual computing environment on their data network.
Our IT sales engineer worked with the IT team at South Shore CVA to find the hardware and software solutions that fit in their budget and met all of their technology needs. After consultative meetings and demonstrations with manufacturer representatives it was determined that a solution utilizing VMware to virtualize South Shore CVA’s server environment and EVGA thin clients to virtualize the desktop PCs was the best fit.
Our data network technician and IT project manager worked with the IT staff at South Shore CVA to develop an implementation plan that would deploy the entire solution across five days. Our team built a test environment where the virtual servers and master EVGA thin client desktop images were tested prior to rollout to ensure a smooth cutover. The server environment was virtualized first using VMware Horizon 6 and then we implemented the PCOIP solution to virtualize their PCs using EVGA thin clients.
Upon completion of the virtualization project Morgan Birgé’s IT support team did regular follow ups with the IT staff at South Shore CVA to ensure system performance met their expectations. Once the virtual solution was stable and performing as expected it was rolled into the existing IT maintenance support plan that South Shore CVA had with Morgan Birgé. Our IT maintenance coverage gives South Shore CVA peace of mind that their investment in virtual computing is supported by the same partner that implemented the solution.
